KAMPALA– With grateful hearts, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and its stakeholders gathered yesterday, December 22, 2025, at Kampala Serena Hotel, to celebrate a meaningful Thanksgiving and Recognition Ceremony, giving thanks and praise for various blessings and honoring dedication, service, and excellence.

Principal Judge Jane Frances Abodo receiving an award from Deputy Chief Justice emeritus Richard Buteera.

The ceremony was held under the theme, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows; James 1:17.” Monsignor Gerald Kalumba from Christ the King Church explained the theme, assisting the congregation understand how God is the source of every blessing, and emphasizing the importance of appreciating Him for the same.

Retired staff, outstanding staff, teams, and offices were recognized and appreciated for their service during the awards ceremony.

The Honorable Principal Judge, Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, was honored with a farewell ceremony and received an award for her distinguished service, presented by Hon. Justice Richard Buteera, the Deputy Chief Justice Emeritus. She was acknowledged and appreciated for her exceptional leadership, sound judgment, and lasting commitment to fairness and justice during her tenure as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), as well as her significant contributions to transforming and advancing the justice system.

Mr. Lino Anguzu was also warmly welcomed to the office as the new DPP by Hon. Justice Richard Buteera, who presented him with a portrait featuring a welcome message.

While addressing the audience, Hon. Justice Richard Buteera, Deputy Chief Justice Emeritus, highlighted the importance of showing gratitude to God and to each other. He pointed out that prosecutors are often not thanked by people because of the nature of their work, hence the need for them to appreciate each other’s contributions. He advised them to work collaboratively to succeed.

Hon. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo thanked the ODPP staff for their support that enabled her success. She left them with the legacy of the power of purpose imprinted on their hearts. She said, “When you wake up each morning knowing why you do this work – to deliver justice, to protect victims, to deter crime, to make Uganda safer and more just – that purpose becomes your fuel. It carries you through long nights, heavy caseloads, and resource constraints. It reminds you that every file you handle, every court appearance you make, every task you perform, contributes to something far greater than ourselves. Hold tightly to that purpose. Let it guide you and propel the ODPP to even greater heights.” She ended by welcoming Mr. Lino Anguzu to the office and praying that he would have wisdom, strength, and joy as he serves.

Mr. Lino Anguzu appreciated the distinguished contributions of his predecessors, pledging to build on them. He bade farewell to the Hon. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo and wished her great success in her new assignment. He informed the Prosecutors that the duty bestowed upon them was a divine calling that necessitated a high level of seriousness while discharging it. He called on them to discharge it accordingly.

It was a meaningful moment to reflect on the journey of the ODPP, give thanks for the blessings received, and recognize the individuals and teams whose dedication and hard work continue to inspire everyone.
