Najjanankumbi– The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has acknowledged the defection of its former Chief Whip in Parliament, Yusuf Nsibambi, to the National Resistance Movement (NRM), describing the move as disappointing but not unexpected.
In a statement dated February 18, 2026, Signed by Hon. Patrick Amuriat Oboi, the Party President,the party said Nsibambi’s decision would not weaken its strength or resolve in pursuing democratic change in Uganda.
Amuriat noted that, the had observed concerning tendencies from the legislator for some time, including alleged engagements at State House without the knowledge or clearance of the party leadership.
The Party empahisized that the matter had already been under consideration in line with Article 12 of the party’s constitution, but his departure has rendered the internal disciplinary process unnecessary, placing him under the jurisdiction of his new political affiliation.
FDC also dismissed what it described as misleading claims made against the party following Nsibambi’s exit, emphasizing that it has previously overcome similar departures and emerged stronger.
It is from that back that the leaders stressed that the Party’s foundation is built on ideology, structures, and the commitment of its members nationwide rather than individual leaders. It revealed that consultations are ongoing to fill the position of Chief Whip, with plans to appoint a replacement without delay.
Amuriat reaffirmed the party’s commitment to strengthening internal discipline, improving vetting processes for leadership positions, and recruiting members committed to advancing freedom, justice, and democracy.
