Jinja– His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the Deputy Mufti of Uganda, has urged parents to take full responsibility for the upbringing of their children, including instilling discipline in them, instead of leaving the responsibility entirely to teachers.

Sheikh Waiswa made the remarks in a speech delivered on behalf of His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, during a well-attended function organised by Jinja Comprehensive Secondary School in Mafubira, on the outskirts of Jinja City in the Busoga Region.
The event, held at the school’s second campus (Green) on Saturday, July 4, 2026, marked the school’s 10th anniversary.
Sheikh Waiswa further advised parents to enrol their children in nearby schools instead of transporting them to distant areas.
“Always be honest by paying required fees in time and cooperate with the school administrations, it will enable them produce the best out of the children,” he said.
Turning to the school’s founders, including Dr. Muhammad Isabirye and Nelson Balabyeki, Sheikh Waiswa paid tribute to them for their vision in establishing the learning institution and for the tremendous effort that has seen it grow into two campuses, making it one of the best-performing schools in Busoga and the country at large.
Earlier, Dr. Isabirye, speaking on behalf of the founding directors, took the guests, including parents, through the school’s 10-year journey. He said the school started with only 80 students and has since grown to an enrolment of 1,821 students, supported by a staff of 103.
Dr. Isabirye and Mr. Balabyeki expressed profound gratitude to the parents and other stakeholders for their continued support, which has enabled the school to become one of the leading institutions in the region in both academics and sports.
The guests were entertained by students through drama performances.
Among those in attendance were Muslim leaders, including; Pro. Dr. Ziyad Swaleh Lubanga, Director of Sharia, Dr. Sheikh Muhammad Hussein Bbowa, the Busoga Regional Assistant to the Mufti; Sheikh Ismail Adi Basoga, the Kadhi of Jinja; and Sheikh Sadat Badola, the Kadhi of Buikwe Muslim District, among others.
