The newly elected leaders of Kimenyedde Sub-county and Kasawo Town Council have officially been sworn into office in ceremonies presided over by the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Mukono District, Mr. Stephen Muhumuza, who represented the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Henry Ddamba.

At Kimenyedde Sub-county, the newly elected LCIII Chairperson, Hon. Lubega Juma, together with all elected sub-county councilors, officially took oath of office, pledging to serve the people faithfully and uphold the laws of Uganda.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the leaders convened their first council sitting under the guidance of Deputy CAO Stephen Muhumuza, during which Hon. Mukhwana Sylivestre was elected Speaker of the council, while Hon. Nalunga Zakia was elected Deputy Speaker.

The LCIII Chairperson, Hon. Lubega Juma, later appointed his executive committee, naming Hon. Nakirijja Mariam as Vice Chairperson, Hon. Mangali Abdu Karim as Secretary for Works, Hon. Nakiwala Zaituni as Secretary for Education, and Hon. Nabirabi Agnes as Secretary for Production and after the Sub county chief of Kimenyedde Ms Tekla Kawooya Kafeero handed over the office keys, instruments of power to the newly Chairperson LCIII and the event was graced by the Religious Leaders, District Councilor Winfred Nakaddu representing Kimenyedde Sub county and secretary for Works and Production and Clerk to Council of Mukono District Ms Eunice Alowo Evelyn.

After the Kimenyedde ceremony, Mr. Muhumuza proceeded to Kasawo Town Council, where he was received by the Principal Town Clerk, Mr. Katamba Fred, and presided over the swearing-in of the newly elected Town Council Chairperson (Mayor), Hon. Mulwana Joseph.

The newly sworn-in leaders later held their first council sitting, also chaired by Deputy CAO Stephen Muhumuza. During the session, Hon. Muyomba Shaban Lubega was elected Speaker after defeating Hon. Kasakya Muhamadi in a competitive vote, while Hon. Rwantale Drusillah was elected Deputy Speaker.

Mayor Hon. Mulwana Joseph also appointed his executive committee, naming Hon. Senkubuge Aisha Magezi as Vice Chairperson, Hon. Matovu Swaib as Secretary for Finance, Hon. Nakazzi Faridah as Secretary for Health and Education, Hon. Sseggumba Vincent as Secretary for Works, and Hon. Nalubega Josephine as Secretary for Production.

While addressing both the newly elected leaders and residents in attendance, Deputy CAO Stephen Muhumuza urged councilors to support their chairpersons and reminded all leaders that the offices they had assumed were not positions for comfort, but responsibilities for serving the people.

He encouraged leaders to actively educate and mobilize communities to improve their welfare, particularly by encouraging residents to participate in and properly utilize funds under the Parish Development Model (PDM) to improve household incomes and livelihoods.

Mr. Muhumuza also urged residents to stop blaming the central government or the President for local service delivery challenges, emphasizing that accountability should begin with their elected local leaders at the town council and sub-county levels.

He further reminded the public that Uganda operates under a multi-party-political system, where every citizen has the freedom to participate in politics and leadership regardless of political affiliation, and urged all leaders to serve without discrimination.

The swearing-in of the newly elected leaders of Kimenyedde Sub-county and Kasawo Town Council marks another important step in strengthening local governance and promoting accountable leadership in Mukono District.

District officials have emphasized unity, teamwork, accountability, and community engagement as essential pillars for sustainable development. With renewed commitment from both political and technical leaders, residents are hopeful that the new leadership will deliver improved services, promote inclusive development, and address community challenges effectively over the next five years.
