Kampala- Following three days of serious investigations against her by various Security Agencies in the country, Rt Hon. Annet Anita Among the Speaker for eleventh Parliament of Uganda has broken the silence.
In a message posted on her official X handle, Among announced that after several consultations with various key stakeholders, she will not contest again for Speakership the second term as she had earlier stated.
“I am greatly indebted to H.E Kaguta Museveni, my party, the NRM, and members of the 11th Parliament for giving me the opportunity to serve as Deputy Speaker and Speaker.
I am equally indebted to my family and friends for the solidarity and support they have extended to me over the last five years.” She remarked
She also pointed out that, she is

“I pledge my total support to the candidates who will be endorsed by the President and the Party, and Implore all colleague MPs of the 12th Parliament to do the same.”
She further expressed commitment to remain available to the service of her country as the party and the President may assign her as well as continuing to cooperate with all ongoing investigations as initiated by the relevant organs of the state to get to the root of all the allegations raised.
This has come at the time when Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has withdrawn its endorsement to her and rallied behind Hon. Maxwell Oboth Oboth, the outgoing minister for Defence, a decision which has been welcomed by majority of the legislators in the forthcoming 12th Parliament.
