Ndejje University has officially commissioned the construction of the Ndejje University Chapel and the Lady Irene Main Hall, marking a significant milestone in the University’s spiritual and infrastructural development.
The historic ceremony was officiated by the Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Dr. Hannington Mutebi, and attended by University Management, staff, and other key stakeholders.
The commissioning ushers in the implementation phase of a vision that has been nurtured for over 15 years, now transitioning from aspiration to reality.
In her address, the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Canon Prof. Olivia Nassaka Banja, described the occasion as a moment of fulfillment, faith, and renewed hope for the University community.
“Today marks the beginning of the construction of the multi-purpose hall and chapel a journey that started 15 years ago and is now finally coming to life.”
She announced that Zebra Construction Company has been awarded the project, which will be implemented over a two-year period in a phased manner. Expressing optimism about the progress, she noted that the University hopes to begin using the Chapel by the August 2026 intake.
Rev. Canon Prof. Banja expressed deep appreciation to the Chancellor for his unwavering trust and belief in the University’s leadership and vision.
“We thank our Chancellor for trusting us and for believing that this dream would one day become a reality.”
She emphasized that the Chapel and Lady Irene Main Hall will play a central role in strengthening the University’s Christian identity, while also providing essential spaces for worship, reflection, and major University gatherings.
The Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Dr. Hannington Mutebi, began his remarks by praising and thanking God for guiding the nation and the University through the recent election period. He commended University Management for their commitment and resilience, noting that they continue to lift the Ndejje University banner high.
Drawing from Scripture, the Chancellor encouraged the University community not to underestimate humble beginnings.
“Do not despise small beginnings. Even though this building is still on paper today, one day it will come to reality.”
He reminded the gathering that the commissioning was not merely ceremonial, but a divine undertaking.
“We are on a divine appointment by God. He expects us to work out His purpose from where we are.”
The Chancellor dedicated the construction grounds to God, praying for divine protection, provision, and success.
“We have come to commission these grounds to God. May the blood of Jesus Christ cover this building.”
He called upon the University community to remain united in prayer and contribution, expressing confidence that God will provide all the resources required for the completion of the project.
Reading from Psalm 127, the Chancellor emphasized the importance of building in total dependence on God with thanksgiving. He tasked the Office of the Chaplaincy with establishing prayer teams to continually pray for the success, safety, and timely completion of the Chapel.
The commissioning of the Ndejje University Chapel and Lady Irene Main Hall stands as a testament to faith, perseverance, and collective vision. Once completed, these facilities will significantly enhance the University’s spiritual life, community engagement, and institutional capacity reaffirming Ndejje University’s commitment to holistic education grounded in Christian values.
