Yasin Magezi has officially taken oath as the Kadhi of Kyenjojo Muslim District during a ceremony held at the main mosque in Kyenjojo Town Council on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Imran Abdunoor Ssali, who represented Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje as the chief guest.
Hundreds of Muslim faithful, led by area leaders, turned up in large numbers despite heavy afternoon rainfall that left many drenched. At exactly 1:00 p.m., Sheikh Magezi, flanked by his two wives, elderly Christian mother, and other family members, raised a copy of the Holy Quran in his right hand and took two oaths of office administered by Hon. Musa Abduswamad, the UMSC Electoral Commission Regional Commissioner for Bunyoro-Toro.
By taking the oaths, Sheikh Magezi formally committed himself to serving the Muslim community, marking the official commencement of his duties as Kadhi.
Following the oath-taking, Sheikh Magezi was assisted into the official green robes of the Kadhi and received instruments of authority, including copies of the UMSC Constitution and policy documents.
The congregation also listened to speeches from several leaders, including Mr. Ausi Kagoro, the Kyenjojo Muslim District Chairperson, who highlighted the current state of affairs in the district. Hon. Kassimu Mugume, the district representative to the General Assembly, reminded the incoming Kadhi that leadership in Islam demands voluntarism, sacrifice, and dedication.
Sharif Hassan represented the outgoing Kadhi, Muhammad Ssebi, while Hussein Ghalib urged the new Kadhi to promote unity among Muslims and remain steadfast to the teachings of Islam, the Holy Quran, the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the UMSC Constitution.
In his maiden speech, Sheikh Magezi surprised many attendees when he revealed that he was born into a staunch Christian family and only reverted to Islam in 2012. He narrated how he later pursued Islamic theological studies and attained a Thanawi Advanced Certificate in Islamic Studies.
“You can reflect and see why some born Muslims neglect to study and understand their religion,” Sheikh Magezi said with a smile while speaking in Rutoro.
He also referenced the famous speech of Saidina Abu Bakr following the death of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), saying that although he may not be the best among them, he would rely on the support of fellow believers in carrying out Allah’s work.
The event was crowned by Sheikh Ssali, who delivered the Mufti’s three-page message focusing on leadership founded on unity, cooperation, justice, accountability, continuity, community engagement, interfaith harmony, and collaboration with government structures.
Addressing the faithful, Sheikh Ssali urged Muslims to fully support the new Kadhi, noting that he had fulfilled all the necessary requirements for the office.
“It is ungodly to keep criticizing him whenever he goes wrong while refusing to support him,” Sheikh Ssali said.
He further encouraged Muslims to sacrifice whatever they have to educate their children and challenged believers to emulate Sheikh Magezi, who embraced Islam and dedicated himself to studying Islamic theology.
“There are no more excuses. You can also go back and study your religion,” he advised.
Sheikh Ssali later declared the ceremony successful and officially handed over the appointment letter signed by the Mufti to Sheikh Yasin Magezi.
Among those in attendance were Kadhis from Toro and Kyegegwa districts, local leaders, and members of the Muslim community from across the Bunyoro-Toro region.
