Mpigi- Learners of Kololo Senior Secondary School in Mpigi District have received a major boost in their sporting journey after being introduced to modern Quadball techniques through an interactive virtual session with international players.
During the Zoom engagement, members of the school’s Quadball team and other interested students were taken through key skills required to excel in the fast-growing sport, with a strong emphasis on communication and teamwork.
Alvaro Gallego Puerta, a Quadball player with Barcelona Eagles, highlighted the importance of coordination among players. “Communication and teamwork are key to success in this game. We have two types of communication—talking and signaling during play. Without communication, even the best team can fail,” he noted.
Anna, an experienced international Quadball player, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that teamwork extends beyond the field. “It is important to build unity as a team. When we work together, we achieve better results,” she said, urging players to foster strong bonds with one another.
The interactive session also gave students an opportunity to ask questions about the game, with facilitators providing detailed responses that enriched their understanding.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Nakandi Joanita expressed gratitude to the organizers. “We thank the ELSA team for continuously supporting us from the introduction of this game up to now. This session has greatly expanded our knowledge,” she said.
Nambaziira Fazila, a Senior Four student and team member, noted that Quadball has significantly enhanced her skills. “It has improved my teamwork and boosted my confidence, especially because it involves both boys and girls,” she explained.
Nakazibwe Patience, also in Senior Four, described the sport as life-changing. “I never thought I could manage such a game, but now I’ve gained new friends both locally and internationally. With continued practice, I hope to become a national champion,” she said.
Segujja Muhammad, a Senior Three student, encouraged fellow learners to take part in co-curricular activities, particularly Quadball, for personal growth and future opportunities.
The school’s head teacher, Julius Ambrose Namanye, commended the initiative, noting its impact on learners. “This interaction has been very important, as many students previously lacked adequate information about Quadball. Since its introduction by ELSA Africa last year, it has attracted more interest than many other sports,” he said.
He added that the school plans to construct a dedicated Quadball pitch and recruit a permanent coach to further develop the team, especially as Kololo SS prepares to host this year’s Quadball tournament.
