Judicial officers and staff from across Kampala and the surrounding metropolitan area gathered earlier this evening for the Judiciary’s routine wellness session, marked by lively aerobics and renewed focus on physical fitness, internal communication, and staff recognition.

The session, held at the Judiciary Headquarters, continues to evolve into a key institutional activity aimed at promoting staff wellbeing and strengthening cohesion within the Judiciary.

Speaking during the session, Principal Judge Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo commended staff for their consistency in sustaining the biweekly aerobics programme. She described the initiative as an important platform for wellness, interaction, and team spirit, noting that it has steadily become part of the institution’s culture.

Lady Justice Abodo also announced that a quiz on the Judiciary Strategic Plan will commence next Wednesday and will be rolled out progressively. She encouraged staff to read and internalise the opening sections of the plan, emphasising the importance of a steady and thoughtful approach.

She further welcomed Ms Ruth Mputeni, Chief Corporate Affairs and Public Relations Officer of the Malawi Judiciary, who is in Uganda on a benchmarking visit. She noted that the visit reflects growing regional interest in Uganda Judiciary’s wellness and communication initiatives.

Addressing staff, the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr Pius Bigirimana, said the aerobics sessions have grown beyond physical exercise into an innovative communication platform through which administrative updates, policies, and institutional developments are shared.

He added that the initiative has provided an opportunity for Ms Mputeni to observe how internal communication can be effectively integrated into staff wellness activities to strengthen institutional culture.

Dr Bigirimana further revealed plans to introduce certificates of recognition for staff who consistently participate in the programme. He also noted ongoing discussions to engage the Judicial Service Commission so that such commitment may, in future, be considered as part of the criteria for appointment and promotion within the Judiciary.

Ms Mputeni expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing her visit as a valuable learning experience. She said the programme provides practical insights into how wellness activities can enhance communication and staff engagement within judicial institutions.

The session also featured recognition of dedicated participants, with the Commissioner for Human Resource Management, Ms Apophia Tuwiine, announcing names of regular attendees selected for commendation. The Principal Judge presented commendation letters in recognition of their consistency and commitment to the programme.
