Mukono– The Technical team for Mukono District Local Government, Mukono Municipality together with the Office of the Resident District Commissioner hosted the Muslim community for a Ramadan Dua and Iftar (breaking of the fast) ceremony aimed at strengthening unity, faith, and cooperation among people in the district.

While welcoming guests and participants, the Chief Administrative Officer of Mukono District Local Government, Henry Ddamba, expressed gratitude to staff from the district, Mukono Municipality, and Mukono Central Division for their support in organizing the event.

He also appreciated Muslim leaders who worked together to ensure the success of the ceremony. Ddamba emphasized that in all activities carried out by the district, leaders strive to put God first in line with Uganda’s national motto, “For God and My Country.” He noted that serving the people of Mukono effectively requires faith in God and commitment to public service.

Speaking during the event, the Town Clerk of Mukono Municipality, Francis Byagambi, thanked the Resident District Commissioner Fatuma Ndisaba Nabitaka for her leadership in organizing the Ramadan Iftar for the Muslim community. He said such gatherings help strengthen unity among people and encourage communities to continue seeking God’s guidance in their lives.

The Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement in Mukono District, Haruna Ssemakula, also commended the RDC and the CAO for initiating the program to support the Muslim community during Ramadan.

He encouraged that the initiative should continue in the future. He also advised Muslim religious leaders to guide believers with respect and wisdom during sermons rather than using harsh language when addressing members of the community.

In her remarks, the Resident District Commissioner Fatuma Ndisaba Nabitaka thanked the organizing committee led by Henry Ddamba and Francis Byagambi for their dedication in preparing the event. She further appreciated everyone who contributed towards making the ceremony successful.

Meanwhile, the Ssekiboobo of Kyaggwe County,Owek. Vincent Bintubizibu Matovu applauded the district leadership for organizing an event that brings together people from different backgrounds. He noted that Ramadan is an important time for reflection, reconciliation, and forgiveness, and encouraged public servants to continue working diligently to promote development in Buganda Kingdom and the entire country of Uganda.

Delivering his message to the Muslim faithful, the District Kadhi of Mukono, Abasi Ssenkuba, thanked the district leadership for recognizing the Muslim community through the Ramadan Iftar initiative.

He also encouraged leaders in the central government to consult religious leaders regularly, noting that cooperation between government and faith leaders helps promote good governance and service delivery.

The Supreme Kadhi of Greater Mukono, Sheikh Abdul Kakande, also expressed appreciation to the district leadership for bringing the Muslim community closer through the event. He reminded Muslims that they are servants of God and should always treat others with respect, promote peace, and use their knowledge to build society rather than create divisions.

The ceremony attracted several leaders from political, religious, and cultural institutions, including the newly elected Mayor of Mukono Municipality, Robert Peter Kabanda, Former NRM Chairperson of Mukono Hajji Twahiri Ssebaggala ,Muslim leaders from across the district, and officials from Kyaggwe County, among them Isaac Newton Musoke, the Mituba Enna of Kauga. Government staff from both Mukono District Local Government and Mukono Municipality also attended the event.

The Ramadan Dua and Iftar gathering highlighted the importance of unity, faith, and cooperation among leaders and communities in Mukono District. Leaders encouraged citizens to continue promoting peace, mutual respect, and service to society while seeking God’s guidance in all their activities, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
