The Government Chief Whip and NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, Denis Hamson Obua, has reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity, reconciliation, and coordinated development in the Lango sub-region.

Hon. Obua made the remarks during a leaders’ engagement held on February 28, 2026, at the Lango Cultural Centre in Lira City. The meeting was convened by the Won Nyaci me Lango, Michael Moses Odongo Okune, under the theme: “Peace, Unity, Reconciliation and Development.”
The gathering brought together political, religious, and cultural leaders from across Lango, including both outgoing and incoming Members of Parliament, senior government officials, and diplomatic representatives—demonstrating a broad-based commitment to regional harmony and progress.
Addressing participants, Hon. Obua underscored the importance of unity among leaders, particularly in the aftermath of the recently concluded elections. He urged stakeholders to set aside political differences and work collectively in the spirit of national cohesion and development.
“Lasting progress can only be achieved when leaders speak with one voice and align their efforts behind a shared agenda,” he emphasized.
Hon. Obua commended the initiative to review the 2012 Lango Development Agenda, describing it as a practical and timely step toward strengthening structured planning and accountability. He welcomed the assessment of government investments already realized in the region, highlighting key infrastructure projects such as Akii-Bua Stadium, Lira Regional Referral Hospital, and the establishment of a university in the sub-region.
According to the Chief Whip, these milestones demonstrate government’s continued commitment to transforming Lango’s socio-economic landscape.
He further encouraged leaders to identify new priorities for inclusion in a revised development framework to be jointly presented to government. He stressed the need for coordinated engagement between cultural institutions, political actors, and religious stakeholders to ensure that development priorities reflect the aspirations of the people.
The meeting also provided a platform for dialogue at a time when divisions have emerged within some institutions in the region. Leaders described the engagement as timely, noting that Lango has long required a unifying platform capable of transcending political cycles and reinforcing reconciliation.
Hon. Obua reiterated that unity remains the cornerstone of sustainable development and prosperity, adding that collaboration among leaders will strengthen service delivery and accelerate socio-economic transformation in the sub-region. He expressed confidence that the renewed spirit of cooperation will enhance stability and foster stronger partnerships between the region and central government.
The engagement concluded with a shared commitment to sustain dialogue, promote harmony, and collectively pursue a common development vision for Lango.
