Kyengera – Construction of the 6.5-kilometre Kisozi–Kitemu–Naggalabi Spur Road in Kyengera Town Council is steadily advancing, with the project team reporting encouraging progress following a recent site inspection and coordination meeting.
The meeting which was held towards the end of this week, brought together contractors, consultants, and district officials, confirmed that the project being implemented by China Railway Seventh Group Company Limited has achieved 31.7 percent physical progress against a planned target of 33.4 percent.
Officials attributed the slight variance to election-related public holidays that temporarily affected the work schedule. However, project managers remain confident that the timeline will be maintained.
Currently, earthworks along most sections of the corridor are largely complete, while precasting activities are progressing ahead of schedule. Culvert installation is also ongoing in various stretches to improve drainage and ensure durability of the road infrastructure.
In selected areas, works have been deliberately moderated to allow for the preservation of two culturally significant trees and to address minor right-of-way concerns. Project leaders say this careful approach reflects a commitment to balancing infrastructure development with environmental conservation and respect for community heritage.
With payments expected in the coming week to facilitate accelerated implementation, the project remains on track for completion ahead of the October 2026 deadline.
The road project, funded by the World Bank in partnership with the Government of Uganda, will feature a paved carriageway, improved drainage systems, pedestrian walkways, and street lighting. Once completed, it is expected to significantly enhance connectivity, improve road safety, and boost mobility within the district.
