Entebbe – Yoweri Museveni, the President of Uganda and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, has chaired a meeting of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) High Command at State House, Entebbe, to review the country’s security situation.
The meeting, held in line with established tradition, assessed the prevailing security environment within Uganda as well as the progress of UPDF operations across the region.
Among those in attendance were the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba; Deputy CDF, Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding; Commander of Land Forces, Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga; Commander of the Reserve Force, Lt. Gen. Otema Awany; Commander of the Air Force, Lt. Gen. Charles Okidi; and Commander of the Special Forces Command, Maj. Gen. David Mugisha. Other senior service commanders and chiefs also participated.
Officials from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs were present, including Minister Jacob Oboth Oboth, State Minister Huda Oleru, and Permanent Secretary Rosette Byengoma.
The High Command meeting comes in the wake of the recently concluded general elections, which observers described as the most peaceful in Uganda’s history. Earlier this month, during the Tarehe Sita celebrations, Gen. Muhoozi commended security agencies for maintaining stability throughout the electoral period and expressed appreciation to citizens for cooperating with security forces.
Regionally, the UPDF continues to participate in operations beyond Uganda’s borders, including deployments in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and Somalia, as part of efforts to promote peace and regional stability.
