Hoima City, Uganda — Hon. Mercy Kanyesigye has pledged to champion inclusive and people-centred leadership after being elected National Female Youth Member of Parliament, following polls held on February 6, 2026, in Hoima City.

In a statement released after her victory, Kanyesigye described her election as a collective triumph for young people across the country, particularly those who withstood pressure during the electoral process.
“I am deeply honored and grateful to have been elected as the National Female Youth MP on February 6, 2026 in Hoima City,” Kanyesigye said, adding that, “this victory is not just mine; it belongs to each of you especially the young people who stood firm and strong in the face of intimidation.”
She commended youth delegates for demonstrating courage and integrity despite what she described as external pressure and attempts to influence their choices.
“Your commitment and courage, despite the challenges posed by external pressures and attempts to sway your votes, was the strength of our collective spirit and unity,” she said. “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each delegate who chose to stand by integrity and voted for me.”
Kanyesigye also vowed to serve all young people regardless of political affiliation, emphasizing unity and inclusiveness during her tenure.
“As I step into this role, I pledge to work tirelessly for all youth across Uganda regardless of whether you supported my candidacy to foster an inclusive environment where every voice is heard and valued,” she stated.
In a gesture of reconciliation, the National Female Youth MP-elect extended appreciation to her competitors and invited them to work together for the common good of the youth.
“I extend my gratitude to my competitors for putting up a good fight,” Kanyesigye said. “I invite you to join me as we work together to serve the young people of our country.”
Kanyesigye will serve as National Female Youth MP for the 2026–2031 term under the banner “Tuko Pamoja,” a Swahili phrase meaning We Are Together, symbolizing unity and collective action.
