The Ugandan Catholic Community in the Archdiocese of Boston (UCCB) has officially announced plans to celebrate Uganda Martyrs’ Day 2026 in Boston, Massachusetts, with a full-day event scheduled for Sunday, June 14, 2026.
According to a media release issued on February 1, 2026, the annual celebration will bring together Ugandan Catholics, pilgrims, clergy, and invited guests from across the United States and beyond to honor the legacy, faith, and sacrifice of the Uganda Martyrs. The day will be marked by Holy Mass, fellowship, dinner, and cultural festivities.
The celebrations will begin with a solemn Holy Mass at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary Parish, located at 133 School Street in Waltham, Massachusetts. The main celebrant will be the Rt. Reverend Bishop Joseph Mary Kizito Alivu of the Diocese of Cape Town, South Africa. UCCB expressed honor in welcoming Bishop Alivu, noting that the Mass is expected to attract a large number of faithful, including religious men and women, families, and pilgrims from near and far.
This year’s celebration will be held under the theme “Christ is Alive in Us” (Galatians 2:20), drawn from Uganda’s national Uganda Martyrs’ Day celebrations at Namugongo in 2026. The theme emphasizes Christ’s living presence through love, compassion, unity, and service, with special focus on the youth and the elderly. The community is encouraged to live out the values of holiness, synodality, tolerance, unity, and mutual respect within families and the wider community.
Following the Holy Mass, participants will proceed to the Boston Marriott Newton Hotel, located at 2345 Commonwealth Avenue, Newton, Massachusetts, for dinner, entertainment, and celebrations. The organizers say the evening event will provide an opportunity for fellowship, cultural expression, and communal thanksgiving.
Tickets for the dinner are available through the UCCB website, www.uccb.us. Prices have been set at USD 150 for adults, USD 100 for young adults aged 13 to 22, and USD 50 for children.
In preparation for the celebrations, the parish will also hold a Novena of Masses from May 5 to June 13, 2026. The Novena will be dedicated to praying for the success of the event and for spiritual renewal, drawing inspiration from the faith and hope exemplified by the Uganda Martyrs.
