Kampala, Uganda– The Executive Director of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), Dr. James Musinguzi, has paid a courtesy call on the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr. Lino Anguzu, at the Office of the DPP headquarters, in a move aimed at strengthening collaboration in the fight against wildlife crime.

Dr. Musinguzi was accompanied by two Assistant Commissioners. The meeting began with the exchange of pleasantries, after which Dr. Musinguzi congratulated Mr. Anguzu upon his appointment as DPP and commended the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for its continued service to the country.
Dr. Musinguzi underscored the importance of engaging key stakeholders, noting that the ODPP plays a critical role in enabling UWA to fulfil its mandate of conserving wildlife and curbing wildlife-related crimes. He expressed appreciation for the support UWA has received so far and voiced optimism that the partnership between the two institutions will continue to grow stronger.
He particularly applauded the ODPP for issuing prosecution licences to UWA staff, maintaining an open-door policy, handling wildlife-related cases expeditiously, and supporting capacity-building initiatives for prosecutors from both UWA and the ODPP.
In his remarks, Mr. Anguzu welcomed Dr. Musinguzi and his delegation to the ODPP and acknowledged the long-standing partnership between the two institutions. He highlighted areas of collaboration, including the licensing of UWA prosecutors, joint capacity-building programmes, and coordinated efforts in the prosecution of wildlife crimes.
The DPP reaffirmed the ODPP’s commitment to continued support through mentoring and training of prosecutors from both institutions, aimed at ensuring an effective and robust prosecution service in the fight against wildlife crime.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Directors of Public Prosecutions, Mr. James Odumbi Owere and Mr. JB Asiimwe, as well as the Head of Field Operations, Ms. Barbara Kawuma.
