NAKASERO – The Archbishop of Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has called on staff of the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) to uphold ethical conduct, honesty, and teamwork as they carry out their national mandate in combating financial crime.
Archbishop Kaziimba made the remarks this morning during the end-of-year thanksgiving service held at the FIA offices in Rwenzori Towers in Nakasero, Kampala. During the Service, he was assisted by Rev. Hillary Jaffu, the Assistant Provost of All Saints’ Cathedral Kampala.
He urged staff to be trustworthy with the resources and information placed under their care and to avoid internal weaknesses that could enable fraudsters to penetrate the Authority’s systems.
He warned against mistrust, collusion, and any form of cooperation with individuals seeking to compromise Uganda’s financial intelligence framework.
Archbishop Kaziimba commended the Authority for its critical role in receiving, analysing, and disseminating financial intelligence to support the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing. He noted that strong financial intelligence systems protect the country’s economy and reputation.
He encouraged staff to be appreciative of their jobs, saying many Ugandans desire such opportunities to serve and contribute to the nation.
In his remarks, Mr. Samuel Were Wandera, the Executive Director of the Financial Intelligence Authority, commended the Church for its continued advocacy in promoting integrity, accountability, and financial discipline.
He said the Church plays an important role in shaping societal values that support the Authority’s mandate of promoting financial integrity, transparency, and professionalism in Uganda’s financial system.
