Leone Island boss Joseph Mayanja, popularly known as Dr. Jose Chameleone, has stirred public debate after making controversial remarks about National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), during a recent National Resistance Movement (NRM) rally in Western Uganda.
While on stage entertaining supporters, Chameleone urged Ugandans not to vote for Bobi Wine in the 2026 general elections. In a strongly worded statement, he declared:
“If Ugandans dare vote for Bobi Wine, I will have no other option than coming to deal with him myself. I will overthrow him in one week. I dare you all to vote for him and see… we are yellow, Team Yellow.”
The remarks have sparked mixed reactions across social media and political circles, with many expressing concern over the tone and implications of his message.
Before venturing into politics, Chameleone, alongside Bebe Cool and Bobi Wine, formed what fans popularly referred to as Uganda’s “Big Three” in the music industry. The trio was known for their fierce musical rivalry, characterized by healthy competition and occasional public spats over dominance in the industry.
Observers say Chameleone’s recent comments could rekindle past tensions, especially if Bobi Wine or his supporters choose to respond.
Meanwhile, several social media critics have advised Chameleone to concentrate on music, arguing that political rallies are not the appropriate platform for personal attacks against fellow musicians. Others, however, defended his right to political expression, stating that he was merely exercising freedom of speech.
As Uganda prepares for another election cycle, public figures’ involvement in politics continues to draw attention—raising questions about the role of artists in shaping political opinion.
