Masaka — A few weeks after publicly criticising the National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership and its supporters, Dr. Abed Bwanika of the Democratic Front (DF) has made a surprise turnaround, urging voters in Masaka–Kabonera to support NUP president Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, in the upcoming election.
Addressing residents during a rally in Masaka–Kabonera, Dr. Bwanika said he saw no reason to attack Kyagulanyi, noting that when the NUP leader recently campaigned in the area, he did not utter any insults against him or the Democratic Front.
“When Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi appeared in this area recently, I did not hear him attacking us, so there is no way I can stand here and abuse him,” Bwanika remarked.
He called upon all voters who are yearning for change, especially his supporters and those leaning towards Bobi Wine, to cast their votes in favour of Kyagulanyi for the presidency.
Bwanika added that, as someone who desires political change in Uganda, he is ready to stand behind any leader who shares the same vision and aspirations for the country.
In the 2021 general elections, Dr. Bwanika was elected to Parliament as the Member of Parliament for Masaka–Kabonera on the NUP ticket. However, towards the end of his five-year term, he severed ties with the party and later joined the Democratic Front alongside Hon. Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba.
Since his departure from NUP, Bwanika has frequently appeared on various media platforms attacking NUP leadership.
