MBARARA — Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke, Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, on Friday November 28, delivered a series of presentations on the role of patriotism in combating corruption to more than 2,400 students in western Uganda.
Addressing 1,500 students undergoing a patriotism training programme at Mbarara High School, Gen. Isoke spoke on the theme “Patriotism: A Weapon in the War Against Corruption.” He later engaged over 900 students at Nyakasura School and Bukuku Community Secondary School in Fort Portal. The sessions were organised by the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps.
In his address, the General urged students to uphold integrity, discipline, and responsibility as guiding principles for their future careers. He reminded them that all citizens, especially the youth, have a constitutional duty to contribute to the national fight against corruption.
Gen. Isoke warned that corruption robs the country of opportunities, weakens institutions, and slows development. He discussed common forms of corruption affecting the education sector, including examination malpractice, misuse of resources, illegal fees, ghost teachers, and absenteeism.
He thanked the Commissioner of the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps and her team for their dedication to nurturing patriotic values among young people. He also appreciated the head teachers of Mbarara High School, Mr. Haam Ahimbisibwe, and Nyakasura School, Rev. Canon Richardson Balinda, for hosting the engagements.
Gen. Isoke further expressed gratitude to H.E. the President and the NRM for championing patriotism as a central national value. “It is through patriotism that corruption will be defeated. When corruption thrives, a nation loses strength; when integrity thrives, a nation rises,” he said.
