KALANGALA– The Masaka High Court, sitting at Kalangala, has today commenced a special Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Criminal Session presided over by Justice Allan Nshimye, with 50 cases lined up for hearing.

Justice Nshimye was received by HW Loe Karungi, Deputy Registrar of Masaka High Court; HW Alleluya Glory, Chief Magistrate of Kalangala; HW Arinda Herbert Kainlawren, and key district stakeholders. The opening ceremony featured a Guard of Honour mounted by the Uganda Police Force, followed by a stakeholders’ meeting to confirm readiness for the proceedings. The session builds on a pre-session conference held on 29th September 2025.
According to the cause list signed by Deputy Registrar HW Karungi, the session will handle 42 cases of Aggravated Defilement, four of Murder, three of Rape, and one case of Aggravated Trafficking in Person.
In his opening remarks, Justice Nshimye expressed appreciation to H.E. the President of Uganda for championing the idea of taking justice closer to the people, and to the Judiciary leadership for consistently organizing special sessions across the country.
He commended the cordial working relationship between the courts and the district leadership and called for continued cooperation throughout the session.
“Justice is not the work of the Judiciary alone,” Justice Nshimye emphasized. “Local leaders and the community have an equally important role to play if crime is to be effectively combated.”
District stakeholders welcomed the session as a timely intervention that will help deliver justice to the people of Kalangala.
They pledged their support to ensure the successful conclusion of the proceedings.
