As Ugandans prepare to go to the polls next year, the political landscape is once again flooded with presidential contenders, each promising to be the face of change. But amid the noise, one sobering truth must be told: not every new face guarantees new direction. Not every voice shouting “change” carries the substance, wisdom, and steadiness needed to deliver it.

General Mugisha Muntu.

Ugandans are weary of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and its decades of misrule. Yet, we must be careful not to confuse change of leadership with change of destiny. True transformation requires more than the removal of a ruler—it demands a leader of depth, discipline, and proven commitment to the common good. Without that, change risks degenerating into chaos, as history has shown us.

We remember the excitement when UMEME’s contract was cancelled recently, only for the public to later regret the inefficiencies that followed by UEDCL. We recall how the people of DRC danced on the streets when Mobutu was toppled, or more recently when Joseph Kabila handed over to President Tishekedi. But is DRC better today? These are cautionary tales: that without the right leadership, change becomes a revolving door of disappointment.

Uganda, at this critical juncture, cannot afford experiments. We cannot afford to gamble with our future by voting for the loudest critic of President Museveni or the most charismatic crowd-puller. Popularity does not equal leadership. Hatred for the incumbent does not translate into vision for the nation.

What Uganda desperately needs is a leader with clarity of purpose, a steady hand, and an unwavering commitment to national unity and service. A leader who understands statecraft, has proven integrity, and can steer our fragile nation through the delicate transition ahead. That leader is Gen. Mugisha Muntu.

Mugisha Muntu’s track record speaks volumes. From his youthful decision to abandon comfort and join the bush war for Uganda’s liberation, he demonstrated unmatched courage and patriotism. Unlike many who fought for personal gain, Muntu consistently chose country over self—even when he was made Minister of Defence after retiring from the army, he turned down the offer That’s the patriot that Muntu is!

Our nation today is deeply fractured—along tribal, social, and economic lines. Inequality yawns wide, corruption eats at the marrow of public institutions, and millions of young people remain unemployed, disillusioned, and desperate. Many have lost faith in the very idea of politics as a tool for national renewal.

This is not a moment for reckless adventurism or shallow populism. It is a moment for sober, ethical, and disciplined leadership. Mugisha Muntu embodies these qualities. He is not a leader of theatrics but of principles. He is not a man of empty promises but of proven restraint, character, and maturity.

Uganda’s transition will require a leader who inspires trust across divides, who listens more than he shouts, who builds rather than destroys, and who places the national interest above personal ambition. Gen. Muntu has consistently demonstrated these attributes throughout his career.

Mugisha Muntu is that leader. His vision is not to be another strongman but to build strong institutions. His mission is not to entrench himself but to serve. His commitment is not to narrow politics but to national healing and renewal.

As we cast our votes, let us rise above anger and bitterness. Let us rise above populism and empty rhetoric. Let us choose not just change, but the right change. The future of our children, the unity of our nation, and the dignity of our people. The leader who will deliver that change is Gen. Mugisha Muntu.

Let us, therefore, rally behind him—not just as a candidate, but as the symbol of the Uganda we all dream of.
