KAMPALA – Uganda Police has responded to the National Unity Platform’s (NUP) seeking for security on their post Nomination Public Rallies at Katwe and Nateete respectively.

The letter which is addressed to the Inspector General of Police, dated 17th September 2025, it stated that upon
nomination as a presidential candidate for the 2026 general elections (subject to confirmation of the date by the Electoral
Commission). They intend to hold two (02) rallies at Katwe Grounds in Makindye Division and Kaala Playground, Nateete in Rubaga Division respectively.
This is to inform you that safety and security assessment was made in respect
to the two venues. The first venue (i.e. Katwe Playground in Makindye Division) was found unsuitable for a political rally due to its proximity to Katwe Market and several other businesses. The venue is also undera high-voltage powerline,
is close to the busy Queensway section of Entebbe road and is crossed by a railway line.” Reads part of Police’s letter signed by Okoshi Simon Peter for Inspector General of Police, addressed to NUP Secretary General
However, the letter stated that, second venue was found suitable, but advised to follow the guidelines in order to ensure that law and order prevail during the rally at the second venue.
These included; Securing necessary clearances from the venue management and local
authorities and avail proof to the Commander Kampala Metropolitan Police(KMP);
Observe all aspects of public order requirements;
Ensure strict adherence to traffic laws and regulations;
Put in place appropriate measures for public health and safety; including emergency medical services;
There must be no processions as this may interfere with normal traffic and other businesses along the routes, to and rom the venue for the rally.
