Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda Law Society (ULS), under the leadership of the Radical New Bar, has unveiled is Advocate Ssali Babu as Acting Secretary and Advocate Lule Alexander as Acting Council Member (Representative of the Central Region).

According to the statement signed by Anthony Asiimwe, Uganda Law Society Vice President, these appointments, take immediate effect , pursuant to Regulations 15(1)(b) and 15(1)(c) of the Uganda Law Society (Election) Regulations, SI No. 10 of 2016, and will remain in effect until the next Annual General Meeting.
“The appointments follow a resolution by the ULS General Meeting held at Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala, to censure and remove the former post holders, Phillip Munaabi (Secretary) and Geofrey Turyamusiima (Central Region Representative), from the Council with immediate effect.”
The ULS Council has also extends its heartfelt congratulations to Advocates Ssali Babu and Lule Alexander, confident in their ability to uphold the Society’s values and advance its mission. We wish them success in their new roles.
Advocate Ssali Babu brings a wealth of experience as a conveyancing and litigation specialist and a partner at Nsubuga K & Co. Advocates. A dedicated leader, he serves as Secretary General of the Central Motor Club and is a passionate advocate for community empowerment. Based in Mukono, Adv Babu is a family man and farmer whose extensive corporate social responsibility initiatives have supported agricultural communities in building resilience against land grabbing and climate change. His proven integrity and commitment to the Radical New Bar make him an invaluable addition to the Council.
Advocate Lule Alexander the founder and managing partner of Xander Advocates in Masaka City, is a respected human rights defender and litigation specialist with an unwavering commitment to the rule of law. Since November 2024, he has served as the unifying Leader of the Greater Masaka Bar, a chapter of the ULS. Adv Lule gained national recognition for spearheading a sit-down strike on 16 June 2025, highlighting judicial understaffing and the backlog crisis at the Masaka High Court Circuit. His advocacy led to a pivotal meeting between the Judiciary’s top management and the ULS Radical New Bar Governing Council, resulting in significant interventions, including the appointment of an additional resident judge, the resumption of timely civil hearings, two plea bargaining sessions (one led by the Acting Principal Judge) at Masaka Main Prison, three criminal sessions in Sembabule, Kyotera, and Kalangala, and an official commitment to operationalize Rakai High Court in the next financial year to alleviate pressure on the Masaka High Court.
