KAMPALA– The High court in Kampala has set the 1st of next month to hear a case filed by over 10 Democratic Party members led by the Bukoto Central MP Richard Ssebamala where they sued the DP President General Norbert Mao, challenging the legality of his re-election during the party’s recent Delegates’ Conference held in Mbarara in June this very year.

The case was slated for hearing today, however the trial judge Joyce Kavuma was indisposed prompting the registrar to adjourn the matter until next month.
In their petition, the group led by legislator Ssebamala accuse Mao of overseeing what they describe as a sham election riddled with gross irregularities and procedural violations.
Sebamala and group allege that the Delegates’ Conference held in June was marred by voter fraud, exclusion of eligible delegates, and manipulation of the voters’ register to favor Mao’s continued leadership.
Ssebamala, who had expressed interest in contesting for the top seat, was reportedly blocked from participating in the elections under circumstances he deemed unclear.
The aggrieved members are now asking the court to nullify the results of the Delegates’ Conference and order a fresh, transparent election supervised by an independent body.
