His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has reminded Muslim men to take up their responsibilities as ordained by Almighty Allah to stabilize and maintain their marriages.
This advice was part of the Mufti’s remarks he delivered as the Chief Guest at the colorful wedding of Mr. Simuka Muhamed, a wealthy entrepreneur from Mbarara City, Western Uganda, and his bride Ms. Natuyamba Rajah, held at the National Mosque on Old Kampala Hill, Saturday, September 13th, 2025.
The Mufti preached, quoting Holy Quranic verses and sayings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), admonishing Muslim faithful to take up marriage as a foundation that shapes families, communities, and eventually populates future generations for the continuity of humanity.
“God ordained upon all men as the head of families three Responsibilities which includes, to provide clothing, shelter, and feeding. And neglecting them will definitely cause a marriage break-up,” Mufti Mubaje remarked. Additionally, he reminded some husbands who might have married wealthy wives or in the working class, not to think that they would shift such responsibilities to their spouses.
“Such a scenario only breeds a harsh attitude in a wife as she gives commands and orders to the husband and yet it wasn’t based on the divine plan from the beginning of the earthly life from the era of human ancestors Prophet Adam and Maama Hawa—Eve. The results of such behaviors are rampant domestic violence, children neglect, among societal problems now being experienced in communities.”
Turning to the newly wedded couple, Mr. and Mrs. Simuka, he said: “So let each of you do your expected part in the marriage journey you have commenced today in presence of your parents and well wishers,” as he blessed them with a blissful marriage coupled with compassion, understanding, and the hope to bear many children to comfort their hearts and be useful in the community.
Earlier, before the groom, Mr. Simuka Muhamed, was officially taken through the steps of Islamic marriage vows, the Mufti was reliably informed that Ms. Natuyamba Rajah, formerly Provia, was a new revert to the Islamic faith. He requested her to confirm her reversion with the Islamic statement of faith—the Shahada—which she readily did in the presence of her parents and relatives, as congregants welcomed with chants of “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is the Greatest).
As an essential part of any Islamic marriage, Mr. Simuka Muhamed offered his newlywed bride Natuyamba Rajah a new brand Mercedes-Benz coupled with \$5,000 as the mahr—symbolizing his love.
The parents on both sides were given a chance to greet and share a word with the wedded couple, expressing their profound appreciation to the couple and to the Mufti for officiating the function.
In attendance were Sheikh Imran Ssali, UMSC Secretary for Religious Affairs; Sheikh Ismail Wandeeba, Administrative Secretary in the Mufti’s office; Sheikh Abdu-Wahid Rashid Nkalumbo, Imam; several Christian church leaders who accompanied Natuyamba’s family members; and others.
