MBALE– The Court of Appeal has on Monday 8th September commenced a three-day session in Mbale dedicated to hearing civil appeals and related applications. The session will run until Wednesday, 10th September 2025.
A total of twenty-five (25) civil appeals and eight (08) applications arising from some of those appeals are scheduled to be handled.
A panel of three Justices; Justice Christopher Gashirabake, Lady Justice Ketrah Kitariisibwa Katunguka, and Justice John Mike Musisi, will preside over the hearings.
According to the cause list issued by the Registrar of the Court of Appeal, HW Rukundo Allen Owembabazi, land matters make up the majority of the session’s caseload, with nineteen (19) appeals. Other cases include appeals relating to property rights, letters of administration, and applications for review and leave to appeal.
This special session forms part of the Court of Appeal’s wider strategy to enhance access to justice and address case backlog. In line with this commitment, the Court expanded its mandate last year to include upcountry civil appeal sessions alongside criminal appeal sessions, a move aimed at taking justice closer to the people and improving efficiency in the appellate process.
