Ntinda- Hundreds joined the Government Chief Whip, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua on Wednesday to pay heartfelt tributes to Maj. Armstrong Obua, describing the late as a patriot and a cherished servant whose life was marked by service, joy and sacrifice.

Speaking during a service at St. Luke Church in Ntinda on Wednesday September 3, 2025, Hon. Obua reflected on their close bond as siblings, noting that as the last born in the family, he always felt surrounded by “an army of brothers” who guided and protected him.

He described the late not only as a soldier but also as an entertainer at heart. “Many fondly knew him as Diblo, a name that reflected his lively spirit and ability to bring joy wherever he went,” said Obua.

Hon. Obua also recalled how he and his brother once presented themselves for army recruitment, but he chose to step back, reasoning that the family could not endure both brothers undergoing the hardship of military training.

Major Obua, however, went on to serve with distinction, earning deep respect within the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF).

“Because of his short stature, he was fondly referred to as ‘the last born in the army,’” Hon. Obua said, adding that his brother accepted the nickname with humility.

“Today, we celebrate a man who gave his all, a brother, a friend, and a patriot who served Uganda with honor and distinction. While we mourn his passing, we also thank God for the gift of his life and the legacy he leaves behind,” he said.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, represented by the Soroti East MP, Hon. Herbert Edmund Ariko extended condolences to the bereaved family noting that although she had not personally known the late, she was confident that Maj. Obua made a significant contribution to Uganda’s peace and security.

The funeral service drew mourners from across the country, including Members of Parliament, relatives, friends, and the UPDF fraternity, who gathered to honor the life of service and sacrifice.
