KAMPALA– President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Lady Justice Frances Abodo, the first female Director of Public Prosecutions in Uganda as the Principal Judge.

This appointment, makes Abodo the first female to head the Office of the Principal Judge which has been dominated by Male since inception.
“In exercise of the powers vested in the President by Article 142(1) of
the 1995 Constitution, I have acting on the advice of the Judicial Service Commission appointed Hon. Lady Justice Abodo Jane Frances as a Principal Judge.” Reads part of the President’s letter
According to the same letter, Abodo’s Curriculum Vitae has been forwarded to Parliament for approval.
This development has been confirmed by Hajji Farouk Kirunda, the Special Presidential Assistant in charge of Press and Mobilization.
Abodo will be replacing Dr. Flavian Zeija who served in the same position from 25th December 2019 .until 7th February 2025 when he was appointed the Deputy Chief Justice.
Biography
She was born on August 18, 1973 in Karamoja, Northern Uganda and attended school; St Mary’s College Aboke in Lira, Trinity College Nabbingo, Uganda Management Institute, Makerere University, LDC, and Trinity College Dublin- Ireland where she mastered in law. She married to Remegio Achia.
March 2018 to 2020, she was a Judge of the High Court, attached to the Criminal Division.
During her tenure as a High court judge, she participated in the disposal of over 800 cases in Mbarara, Bushenyi, Kampala, Maindi, Gulu, Nakasongola and many other areas.
Before appointed a High Court judge, she was a staff under ODPP where she rose through ranks from A state prosecutor to a position of Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions by the time she left this office.
