His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, is currently in Nairobi, Kenya, attending the African Council of Religious Leaders for Peace two-day General Assembly, taking place from 11th–12th August 2025 at the Emar Hotel.
The General Assembly is being moderated by His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Mubaje in his capacity as Co-Chair, alongside the Most Reverend Albert Chama, Archbishop of the Anglican Church of the Province of Central Africa, Republic of Zambia.
The event has brought together over 110 senior religious leaders, youth, and women of faith under the theme “Shared Sacred Flourishing: Interfaith Leadership for Peace & Justice in Africa.” It will highlight sacred values, moral responsibility, and a vision for thriving communities. The Assembly will also feature convenings of the African Women of Faith Network and the Interfaith Youth Network, as well as the unveiling of the 4th ACRL-R/P Strategic Plan (2025–2030).
A high-level panel on the peace crisis in Sudan will provide space for deep dialogue and an interfaith response to one of the region’s most urgent conflicts.
In his opening remarks, Mufti Mubaje reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to peace, justice, and human dignity across the African continent.
“May this gathering inspire deeper collaboration, courageous dialogue, and transformative action. Together, let us advance our collective vision of a flourishing Africa grounded in our shared spiritual and moral values,”* read the message from the co-chairs.
High-profile personalities present include Dr. Francis Kuria, Secretary General – ACRL-R/P; Dr. Joel Okindo, Governing Board Member; Dr. William Vendley, R/P Secretary General Emeritus; Dr. Ebraheem Ssali, Executive Secretary of the African Forum of Muslim Councils; and Dr. Rajni Taylor, President of the Hindu Council of Africa, among others.
