Mukono District Local Government, in partnership with the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area – Urban Development Program (GKMA-UDP), has handed over ICT equipment to lower local governments, including town councils and sub-counties, to boost effective service delivery at the grassroots.
The equipment, purchased under the institutional strengthening grant, includes desktop computers with accessories and printers for all 16 entities within the district. The items were officially received by sub-county chiefs and town clerks during a ceremony attended by Hon. Afende Wambi Nathan, Secretary for Production and District Councilor representing Katosi Town Council; Mr. Ssebadduka Colline, District Planner; and Mr. Kiwalabye Ibrah, District IT Officer.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief Administrative Officer, Ms. Elizabeth Namanda, the Deputy CAO, Mr. Muhumuza Stephen, expressed gratitude to the government for continuously empowering local governments through capacity building and modern tools. He urged lower local administrators to work towards constructing permanent administrative units instead of renting, noting that renting is costly and compromises privacy and security for government property. He encouraged them to mobilize resources and lobby for facilities that ensure proper storage and safeguard assets.
While closing the handover ceremony, the Vice Chairperson LCV of Mukono District, Secretary for Finance, Planning, and Administration, and District Councilor representing Nagojje Sub-County, Hon. Kabali representing the District Chairperson, Hon. Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa thanked the government and GKMA-UDP for empowering lower local governments with ICT equipment and printing machines. He also appreciated the leadership of Mukono District, the CAO Ms. Elizabeth Namanda, and the RDC Hajjat Fatumah Ndisaba for facilitating Mukono’s inclusion in the GKMA program.
Hon. Kabali reminded all sub-county leaders that the equipment is public property meant to serve the people of Mukono District. He urged them to deploy security guards to safeguard the gadgets and ensure they are used solely for official purposes.
The distribution of ICT equipment marks a significant step towards digitizing and improving service delivery across Mukono’s lower local governments. With the added emphasis on securing and properly managing these assets, the initiative is expected to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability further bridging the gap between the district administration and the communities it serves.
