Kole District – The Archbishop of Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has today paid a courtesy prayer visit to the home of Mzee Lameck Ogwal, the husband of the late Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal, in Kole District.

Archbishop being welcomed by Mzee. Lameck Ogwal

The visit was part of the Archbishop’s pastoral visit in the Diocese of Lango. He was accompanied by Bishop Prof. Alfred Olwa and Maama Rev. Canon Capt. Susan Olwa and the Provincial Secretary of Church of Uganda, Rev. Canon William Ongeng.

Among the dignitaries present were Hon Samuel Opiyo Acuti the Kole North Member of Parliament, Mr. Sam Atul, Mayor of Lira City, and Mr. Benson Walter Dilla, the Oyam District Chairperson, Clan heads and close family members.

Archbishop Kaziimba described the late Hon. Cecilia Ogwal as both a sister and a trusted confidant who he always consulted on several issues especially reconciling political rivals.

“As the Archbishop, I have to attend to many issues affecting my Christians, especially in politics, business, culture, and family life. Hon. Cecilia was always someone I turned to for advice because of her high moral integrity and political maturity,” he said.

He further revealed that their close relationship had led Hon. Ogwal to introduce him to the Ogora Clan, which cemented their relationship as a brother and sister.

“We should stop fighting one another because of our tribes, regions, or religious beliefs. Cecilia was a unifier. We managed to unite very many people who were conflicting because of their political affiliations and tribes.” the Archbishop added.

Mzee Lameck Ogwal, 92, spoke fondly of his late wife, praising her as a prayerful, committed and compassionate woman.

“Cecilia was deeply committed to prayer and our family. She was very trustworthy and loved everyone. She always brought us together as a family to pray. That’s why, in Parliament, she was like a mother or sister to everyone,” Mzee Ogwal said.

Bishop Prof. Alfred Olwa said that the low key short visit had been proposed by the Archbishop during his sermon on Friday at All Saints Cathedral Boroboro, where he addressed students and staff from various schools arround the Cathedral.

The Archbishop’s itinerary in Lango Diocese began on Friday with a visit to the home of Rev. Canon William Ongeng and an address to students at Boroboro. On Saturday, he officiated the wedding of Mr. Sam and Mrs. Lydia Ecar at All Saints Cathedral Boroboro and visited the construction site of St. Mary’s Adekokwok Church of Uganda whose construction is spearheaded by former Minister, Hon. Sam Engola.

Earlier today, he preached at St. Augustine Barogole Church of Uganda in Lira City, before concluding his pastoral visit with the visit to Mzee Lameck Ogwal’s home.
