BUSOGA REGION– Three senior officials of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party from Kamuli and Buyende districts have been sent to prison on offences related to electoral malpractice steming from last week’s Party Primaries for the party flag bearers on the the positions of Member of Parliament.

The three currently on remand are ; Baliruno David , NRM party administrator; Matovu Vincent, Buyende District Registrar; and Gwambuga Godfrey, Kamuli District Registrar. These were formally charged before the Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Prosecution alleges that, Baliruno and Matovu face charges of Forgery and Uttering false Documents.
Gwambuga is facing multiple charges including Forgery, Falsification of tally Registers, and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony alongside others still at large.
The accused persons were remanded to Buyende and Kamuli government prisons respectively until 28th July 2025, when they are expected to return for mentioning of their case.
The arrests followed the public outcry from members who were not contended with the results announced and lack of transparency throughout the whole Electoral process which resulted into their defeat.
The trio are accused of participating in ballot manipulation and result falsification in key sub-counties a move many believe was aimed at influencing the primaries in favour of some candidates.
Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Kasadha Michael confirmed the arrests, stating that investigations are ongoing and more suspects may be apprehended.
“The integrity of electoral processes must be protected at all levels. The law will take its course,” said ASP Kasadha.
The developments have stirred tension within the NRM grassroots structures in Busoga, with increasing calls for an internal audit of the entire primaries in the affected districts.
