Kampala– The Judiciary of Uganda will today, Wednesday 23rd July 2025 hold a special Supreme Court session to honor Prof George Wilson Kanyeihamba who passed away last week.

According to the official communication from the Judiciary, this special sitting will be held at 2.00pm at Supreme Court building located at the Judiciary Headquarters in Kampala.
The session is expected to be attended by Judicial officers (serving and retired) , members of the Legal fraternity, government officials as well as relatives and friends of the fallen Justice.
In the same vain, the Judiciary opened a condolence book , where members of the public are welcomed to pay tribute to Prof Justice Kanyeihamba.
Kanyeihamba passed away on Monday, 14th July 2025 at Nakasero Hospital.
Hon. Justice Prof. George Wilson Kanyeihamba was born on 11th August, 1939 in Kinkizi County – Current Kanungu District.
He was the eleventh child of the Late Zakaliya Bafwokworora and Kyenda Malyamu Kyakundwa. He passed on at the age of 85 years.
He attended his Primary School Education at Hamurwa Church School and Nyaruhanga Primary School in Kabale District. He proceeded to Kigezi High School and Busoga College Mwiri where he earned Grade “A” in 1961for his junior Course from where he was admitted for the Advanced level certificate at Norwich, UK.
Upon completion, he was
admitted at Portsmouth University, UK for a Bachelor’s Degree
in Law in 1964. He further attained a Master’s Degree and PHD at Warwick University, UK in 1974.
The late worked as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Wales Cardif, UK from 1979 – 1986 when he returned back to Uganda and served as a 1st Minister of Commerce in the NRM government until 1989. He was a Member of the National Resistance Council (NRC) representing Rubanda County (1986-1996); He was Chairperson of the Legal and Drafting Committee of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda. From 1989 he was appointed Minister of Justice and Attorney General until 1991. From 1997 the Late was appointed Justice at the Supreme Court until 2009 when he retired.
