KAMPALA– Mr. Fred Muwema , one of the experienced lawyers in the country, has called upon all young people who have joined and those preparing to join the legal practice, to prioritize gaining experience, than quicker wealth.
While addressing members of Uganda Law Society and Law Students from various Universities all over the country and Law Development Council (LDC) all over the country, noted that most of the lawyers nowadays have no time for research and attending court sessions, but Instead spend most of their time in showbiz as well as social media.
“Law is a very sensitive profession, I know many of you the young people in the digital age are now used to Artificial Intelligence (AI), asking AI questions and get answers, wil not give you experience without hard labor or putting in time. You have to Read put in more hours and be present in court.”
He called upon the lawyers not to get worried about the increasing number of legal practitioners in the country because the even the population of Uganda is growing growing at a high speed.
“In 1990 when I had just joined law school, we were about 44 law students in the whole country from one law school and one University throughout the country. By then, the total population of Uganda was around 15 million, but now if we have a bigger number of lawyers serving a large population, there is at least more opportunities for at least every lawyer.”
Muwema therefore promised to work with other stakeholders in ensuring that renumeration improves for all lawyers in the country.
