Namugongo, Uganda – June 2, 2026The Church of Uganda has announced key guidelines ahead of the 2026 Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations scheduled for June 3 at the Uganda Martyrs Anglican Site in Namugongo.

In a statement released ahead of the annual commemoration, the Church confirmed that this year’s celebrations will be conducted under a scientific arrangement, with attendance limited to only 200 invited guests. Organizers emphasized that participation in the main service will be strictly by invitation.
The service is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 11:00 a.m. The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, will lead the celebrations as the main celebrant, assisted by a small team of bishops and clergy.
To enable wider participation, the service will be broadcast live by several media houses across the country. Meanwhile, dioceses have been encouraged to organize Martyrs Day commemorations at parish level to allow Christians to celebrate within their local communities.
The Church also revealed that a number of government officials have been invited to attend the national event.
Organizers said all standard operating procedures issued by the Ministry of Health Uganda will be strictly observed. These include the provision of handwashing facilities, adequate sanitizers, and adherence to social distancing measures.
This year’s celebrations are being organized by Uganda Christian University, which will also coordinate the 2027 commemorations. The university chaplaincy has designed a special liturgy to guide worship services across the Province during the Martyrs Day observances.
The annual Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations honor the faith and sacrifice of the Christian martyrs who were executed between 1885 and 1887 and remain a significant event on Uganda’s religious calendar.
