Kampala,Uganda– Erias Lukwago has officially returned to full-time legal practice following the end of his tenure as Kampala Lord Mayor, marking a new chapter after nearly two decades in active politics and public service.
Lukwago, who served both as Kampala Central Member of Parliament and later as Lord Mayor of Kampala for 15 years, recently handed over office to the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director, Sharifa Buzeki, earlier this week.
Following the transition, the veteran politician and renowned legal mind has resumed operations at his law firm, Lukwago and Company Advocates, where he is expected to dedicate most of his time to legal practice.
Before fully joining elective politics, Lukwago built a strong reputation as one of Uganda’s leading lawyers in the early 2000s. Through his law firm, he handled several high-profile cases, many of which attracted national attention and ended successfully.
Lukwago’s return to legal practice comes months after he lost the Kampala Lord Mayor race in the January 2026 elections to National Unity Platform candidate Nsubuga Balimwezo. Despite the defeat, Lukwago accepted the results and thanked Kampala residents for entrusting him with leadership for over a decade.
On Wednesday, Lukwago officially resumed work at his law chambers, signaling a fresh beginning in the legal profession after years of political leadership.
