Nakifuma–Naggalama Town Council has approved a budget of UGX 490 million for the 2026/2027 financial year, with UGX 300 million expected to be generated from locally raised revenue.

Town Council session

The budget reflects a strong commitment by the council to improve delivery service and accelerate local development.

The council session was chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Kiwanuka Henry Basajjabaka, who commended leaders for their unity and coordinated efforts.

He noted that this cooperation has significantly boosted revenue performance, with collections increasing from about UGX 200 million to over UGX 400 million, and market revenues rising from UGX 80 million to UGX 130 million. He urged both current and incoming leaders to maintain transparency and avoid corruption in leadership.

The Secretary for Finance, Hon. Kyeswa Nicholas, presented the budget, highlighting key priorities such as installation of street lights to improve security and business activity within the town.

The Town Clerk Mr. Kizito Francis Walubi outlined major focus areas for the upcoming financial year starting 1st July 2026.

These include road construction and rehabilitation, improved garbage management through waste separation and proper disposal systems, and support to schools through procurement of desks. He also emphasized continued support for household income initiatives under the Parish Development Model (PDM), including community sensitization, group formation, and monitoring of beneficiaries.

The LCIII Chairperson (Mayor), Mr. Isa Nvule Walusimbi, reflected on achievements from the outgoing financial year, including support to schools with desks and materials, and efforts to promote agriculture. However, he expressed concern over some individuals who resist development initiatives, citing the loss of a potential market project under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area due to such challenges.

The District Councilor Hon. Ssempaka Bernard called upon technical staff to handle PDM beneficiaries with care and avoid actions that could discourage or frustrate them.

Meanwhile, the Woman District Councilor, Hon. Nasazi Martha, who also serves as Secretary for Gender and Health at the district, urged leaders to respect and appreciate retired public servants for their contribution. She also advised local leaders to be vigilant in land matters, especially in preventing exploitation involving small land plots.

The council meeting was marked by appreciation of councilors for their service, with participation from LCII and LCI chairpersons, as well as technical staff of Nakifuma–Naggalama Town Council.

The approval of the UGX 490 million budget signals a renewed commitment by Nakifuma–Naggalama Town Council to drive development and improve livelihoods. With a strong focus on infrastructure, sanitation, education, and economic empowerment, the council has laid a solid foundation for progress. Continued unity among leaders, accountability in resource utilization, and active community participation will be essential in ensuring that the planned initiatives translate into tangible benefits for the people.
