Mukono District Local Government has intensified its oversight efforts through a comprehensive monitoring exercise of ongoing government-funded school projects, aimed at ensuring quality work and timely completion.

The exercise, spearheaded by the District Education Department, commenced at Buyiita UMEA Primary School in Namuganga Sub-county, where a two-classroom block is under construction by ATX Technology. The project, contracted in December 2025, is expected to be completed by 30th May 2026.
The inspection team was led by the Inspector of Special Needs, Mr. Ssali Gerald, accompanied by key district technical officers including the District Labour Officer, Ms. Belinda Doreen (representing the DCDO Ms. Minisa Namukose Kirya), and the Natural Resources and Environmental Officer, Mr. Wodeya Kenneth.
The Headteacher of Buyiita UMEA Primary School expressed appreciation to Mukono District for the ongoing support, noting that the new classroom block will significantly improve the school’s learning environment.
Addressing stakeholders during the site meeting, Mr. Ssali Gerald emphasized that regular monitoring is critical in ensuring adherence to construction standards and timely delivery of projects.
He commended the community for actively participating in the monitoring process and urged the contractor to maintain the agreed timeline. He further advised the contractor to increase manpower on site and maintain close coordination with the District Engineer to meet quality standards. He also appreciated the contractor for fostering a positive working relationship with the community.
On environmental concerns, Mr. Wodeya Kenneth called for proper waste management and encouraged tree planting within the school to promote environmental conservation.
Ms. Belinda Doreen commended the contractor for observing safety measures, especially the use of protective gear. However, she cautioned the community to protect children from potential risks, including inappropriate interactions with workers, and urged the use of grievance committees to address emerging concerns. She also emphasized the importance of safeguarding construction materials, highlighting the community’s role in ensuring project success.
The project engineer reaffirmed the contractor’s commitment to delivering the project on time and in line with the approved Bill of Quantities (BOQ).
The monitoring exercise extended to Nteete Primary School in Kimenyedde Sub-county, where construction of a VIP latrine is nearing completion. The project, valued at UGX 46 million and implemented by Kapion Technical Services-SME Limited, began on 29th January 2026 and is scheduled for completion by 30th April 2026.
The company’s Executive Director, Ms. Adiao Kellen Patricia, appreciated the district for the opportunity and called for continued collaboration. She advised the school administration to wait for official handover before using the facility.
Meanwhile, the Headteacher of Nteete Primary School, Mr. Maka Charles, appealed for additional infrastructure and teaching staff to accommodate increasing student enrollment.
