Buziga– The official send-off and funeral service in honour of the late Justice Prof. George Wilson Kanyeihamba, retired Justice of the Supreme Court, is taking place at Kabojja International School, Buziga, Kampala.

The service is attended by family, friends, members of the Judiciary, the legal fraternity, and dignitaries from all walks of life, all gathered to pay their last respects to the Judge for his illustrious career and legacy.
Leading the Judiciary family is the Chief Justice, Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo, accompanied by the Ag. Principal Judge, Justices, Judges, senior administrators, and Members of the Lower Bench.
The main celebrant of service is the Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala in the Church of Uganda, Right Reverend Canon Jackson Frederick Baalwa.
In his sermon, Bishop Baalwa commended the late judge for being a towering figure, an academic, and a person who made significant contributions to the country. He acknowledged the enduring legacy the judge leaves behind and thanked God for the influence and impact of his life.
The Bishop noted that justice was not merely the late judge’s professional title, but a principle that guided his entire life and work. He described him as a practical
judge, a man of wisdom, bold in character, not easily intimidated, and someone who inspired confidence in the law.
He encouraged Christians to emulate the God of justice by becoming agents of fairness in the world and treating others with equity.
In his message, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Church of Uganda, also paid tribute to the late Prof. George Kanyeihamba, describing him as “an instrument in development” whose contribution to the community will be greatly missed.
Bishop Akanjuna noted that Prof. Kanyeihamba was a trailblazer of his time, being among the first in his generation to pursue a career in law. He further highlighted his deep passion for education, authoring many books and sponsoring numerous children in their studies.
He also noted that Professor Kanyeihamba was one of the founders of Kabale University, an institution that continues to impact the region and beyond.
The send-off began with a procession from the family home to the venue for the funeral service.
A retired Justice of the Supreme Court and former Minister of Justice and Attorney General,Prof. Kanyeihamba leaves behind a towering legacy as a jurist, constitutional scholar, statesman and human rights defender.
Kanyeihamba passed away a week a go at the age 85, leaving behind a widow and Children.
