Kampala– The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has directed all broadcasters, internet service providers, and social media platforms in Uganda to immediately suspend the airing, distribution, and promotion of the song “Mukube Paver” by Dynaso Wegoso, citing concerns over its content and influence on the public.
In a directive dated April 7, 2026, Signed by Hon. Nyombi Thembo, UCC Executive Director, the Telecommunication Regulator said, that it had received numerous complaints from members of the public regarding the song’s lyrics and its widespread circulation across radio, television, and digital platforms. Following a preliminary review, the Commission concluded that the song promotes and glorifies violence, both explicitly and implicitly.
According to UCC, the track has also sparked a dangerous trend of viral “challenge” activities, particularly on social media platforms such as TikTok, where youths are reportedly mimicking and celebrating violent behavior inspired by the song.
“The continued dissemination and distribution of such content poses a risk to public safety, undermines societal values, and contravenes established broadcasting and content standards,” the Commission noted.
As part of the directive, all broadcasters have been ordered to halt the airing of the song and any related discussions across their platforms until investigations are concluded. Additionally, online content providers and social media operators have been instructed to remove the song, disable access to it, and prevent further uploads or sharing.
The regulator also warned that individuals and entities found sharing or promoting the prohibited content risk legal consequences under the Uganda Communications Act and Content Regulations. Offenders may face fines or imprisonment of up to two years.
UCC further revealed that the artist, Dynaso Wegoso, has been summoned to appear before the Commission on April 16, 2026, to respond to the findings and discuss possible remedies.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to promoting responsible content that upholds public morality, safety, and national values, urging all stakeholders to exercise caution and adhere to regulatory standards in content creation and distribution.
