The Health Department of Mukono District today held its end-of-year celebration, recognizing and appreciating dedicated health workers with awards for their outstanding service in 2025.
The colorful event took place at Grand Praclos Gardens Nasuuti and brought together district health workers, political leaders, and technical staff.
Among the distinguished guests were the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Mr. Muyambi Moses, The District Councilors led by the Vice Chairperson of LCV Hon Joremu Kabali Kimera,The District Speaker Hon Betty Hope Nakasi, The Chairperson of NRM Mukono Municipality and the District Health Officer Dr. Mulindwa Steven, health facility in-charges, district technical officers, and other invited leaders.
In his remarks, The Deputy RDC Mr. Muyambi Moses commended the Health Department for organizing the celebration and applauded health workers for their tireless service to the people of Mukono and Uganda at large, despite the many challenges they face. He encouraged them to remain committed to delivering quality health services.
Addressing concerns about the District Service Commission, he assured staff that under the new leadership, efforts are underway to resolve pending issues to ensure smooth recruitment processes and prevent any loss of funds due to the absence of the committee.
He noted that while only a few staff received awards this year, many others also performed exceptionally well and will be recognized in future ceremonies. He urged those who missed out not to lose hope but to continue serving diligently.
The Deputy RDC further emphasized teamwork and effective communication among health facility heads to improve service delivery.
He cautioned against employing unqualified health workers in the absence of supervisors and called for integrity and professionalism across all facilities. In a special way, he applauded the in-charge of Ddamba Health Centre for her exceptional performance despite serving in a hard-to-reach area. He also called for unity between civil servants and political leaders for the development of Uganda.
Speaking on behalf of the District Chairperson, Rev. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, Hon. Joram Kabali Kimera thanked all health workers for their dedication to improving healthcare in Mukono District.
On the issue of the Service Commission, he revealed that final reports had been submitted to the Public Service Commission and expressed optimism that recruitment processes would resume smoothly in the coming week.
The District Health Officer, Dr. Mulindwa Steven, explained that the end-of-year gathering was organized to allow health workers to interact and bond with fellow civil servants and political leaders, noting that many health workers are rarely seen outside their health facilities. He highlighted the emotional demands of the medical profession, explaining that health workers often deal with patients facing serious challenges, unlike other professions where interactions are generally positive. Such events, he said, provide an opportunity for relaxation, stress relief, and open discussion of challenges.
Dr. Mulindwa thanked health facility in-charges for their commendable work despite staffing shortages. He also highlighted key achievements registered by the department, including reducing maternal deaths by half and strengthening emergency response services with four ambulances and trained personnel to handle emergency cases. He pledged that more efforts would be invested this year to further reduce maternal mortality.
The celebration concluded with the awarding of the best-performing health workers of 2025 across different sectors, marking a moment of appreciation, unity, and renewed commitment to quality healthcare service delivery in Mukono District.
