Amuru District — Police in Amuru District, in a joint operation with the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), have arrested six suspects in connection with the theft of 105 head of cattle from the farm of former East African Legislative Assembly Speaker, Dan Kidega.

Cattle which was recovered.

According to the Aswa West Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ongom David Mudong, the theft occurred on February 12, 2026, at Ocibi “A” Village, Bana Parish, Lakang Sub-county in Amuru District.

The suspects, currently detained at Amuru Central Police Station, have been identified as:

Kuzara Ezra, 33, a resident of Kamuli Village, Kibanda Sub-county, Rakai District

Talemwa George, 22, a resident of Ocipi Village, Lakang Sub-county, Amuru District

Ihanga Nathan, 27, a resident of Mukageta Village, Lyantonde District

Kakuru Fred, 33, a resident of Mutukula Village, Kyotera District

Kairanga Stephen, a resident of New York Village, Bana Parish, Lakang Sub-county, Amuru District

Agaba Emma, 30, a resident of New York Village, Bana Parish, Lakang Sub-county, Amuru District

Preliminary investigations indicate that herdsmen employed to manage the farm allegedly orchestrated the theft. Police say a key suspect believed to have coordinated the transportation of the stolen cattle using trucks remains at large. He has been identified as Denis, also known as “Sebabanda.” Security agencies have intensified efforts to track him down.

In a swift recovery operation conducted on February 13, 2026, security forces intercepted the stolen cattle at Ajok Village in Bana Parish as the suspects attempted to ferry the animals across the River Nile.

Authorities have so far recovered 84 head of cattle. Efforts are ongoing to trace and recover the remaining 21 animals.

Police have confirmed that investigations are still underway as security agencies continue pursuing additional suspects who may have been involved in the crime.
