Kampala — I thank parents and guardians for the care and protection given to our children during the holiday period. As the new school term begins today, I make a special appeal to all parents to ensure that their children return to school promptly.

I wish to clearly emphasize that teaching and learning begin on the first day of term. The perception that there is no serious work at the beginning of term is incorrect and should no longer keep learners at home.
I appeal to teachers and school administrators to be ready to receive learners and to ensure that essential services, including food and learner welfare, are in place.
I also call upon school inspectors and education officers to diligently perform their duties and ensure that all schools provide a safe and conducive learning environment.
Regular attendance from the first day of term is essential for discipline, continuity, and academic progress. I therefore appeal to all parents to support their children’s education by returning them to school today.
