Mukono District Local Government, in partnership with the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area – Urban Development Programme (GKMA-UDP), has conducted the first Stakeholder Business and Investment Engagement aimed at establishing the Kyetume Livestock Market and Skilling Hub.
The engagement, held at Bukasa, Kyetume Parish in Nakisunga Sub-county, is part of Mukono District’s implementation of Pillar Three (Job Creation) under the GKMA-UDP framework.
The initiative seeks to promote employment, skills development, and value addition within the livestock sector.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the GKMA-UDP technical team, the Mukono District Technical Team led by Mr Kayoro Pontius who represented the Chief Administrative Officer of Mukono and the District Production Officer, Dr. Mukulu Fred, The Sub County Leadership of Nakisunga as well as butchers, livestock traders, and local business operators from the Kyetume area.
Speaking during the engagement, the Principal Commercial Officer, Mr. Kenneth Ntege, explained that the meeting was organized to consult all intended beneficiaries and incorporate their views into the project design and implementation process.
Mr. Ntege emphasized that the Kyetume Livestock Market and Skilling Hub is expected to significantly benefit residents of Kyetume, Mukono District, and the country at large by creating employment opportunities, improving livestock trade, and strengthening the meat value chain.
He further noted that the project will support participants under the Parish Development Model (PDM) by enhancing skills, improving meat quality standards, and promoting better handling and processing practices.
Stakeholders welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the market and skilling hub will modernize livestock trade, boost incomes, and attract more investment to the area.
The first stakeholder and business investment engagement marked a critical step toward the establishment of the Kyetume Livestock Market and Skilling Hub.
Through collaboration between Mukono District Local Government, GKMA-UDP, and local stakeholders, the project is set to drive job creation, skills development, and economic transformation in the livestock sector.
Once operational, the facility is expected to strengthen value addition, improve livelihoods, and contribute to sustainable urban and rural development within Mukono District and beyond.
