Mbarara-Bright Muhumuza, the National Unity Platform (NUP) coordinator for the Ankole sub-region, has been charged with driving in a rash or negligent manner and remanded by the Mbarara Chief Magistrate’s Court.

Muhumuza appeared before Grade One Magistrate Ochieng Yafesi in Mbarara, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The State Prosecution informed court that investigations into the matter are still ongoing and requested more time to conclude inquiries. The Magistrate consequently adjourned the case to February 11, 2026, and remanded the accused.
According to the prosecution, the offence was allegedly committed on January 14, 2026, when Muhumuza is said to have driven a motor vehicle, registration number UAY, in a rash or negligent manner likely to cause harm to SP Kenneth Kabwigo Gumisiriza, the Mbarara City Division District Police Commander (DPC).
The case adds to a series of legal challenges involving opposition political figures, particularly members of the National Unity Platform, in the run-up to and aftermath of the 2026 general elections.
