Kampala, Uganda– The Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC), Ms. Mariam Wangadya, together with the Director of Complaints and Investigations, has paid a courtesy call on the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr. Lino Anguzu, at his office.

During the meeting, Ms. Wangadya congratulated Mr. Anguzu upon his appointment as Director of Public Prosecutions and reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between the Uganda Human Rights Commission and the Office of the DPP. She noted that the two institutions share a common mandate in the promotion and protection of human rights, particularly in ensuring access to justice and equal protection of all citizens before the law.
Ms. Wangadya emphasized that the Commission has consistently supported the Office of the DPP in the execution of its constitutional mandate, especially in advancing the right to justice. She also highlighted several areas of mutual interest and referenced a number of cases on which the two institutions have successfully collaborated over time.
In response, Mr. Anguzu expressed appreciation for the courtesy visit and the warm congratulatory message, commending the UHRC Chairperson for her leadership and the work being done by the Commission. He informed the delegation that the Office of the DPP has an established Human Rights Desk and underscored that observance of human rights is central to ensuring an effective and credible prosecution service.
The DPP further acknowledged the shared areas of interest between the two institutions and pointed out challenges within the justice system that affect the realization of human rights. He cited the need for law reform, enhanced professionalism across the justice sector, and increased staffing levels as critical areas requiring attention to strengthen justice delivery and human rights observance in the country.
