Kampala — Uganda Airlines is set to begin the process of recruiting a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), following an internal communication by the current CEO, Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki, indicating that the airline’s Board will soon advertise the top leadership position.

In a leaked internal email circulated to staff, Bamuturaki informed employees that the Board of Directors would shortly publish the CEO vacancy and encouraged qualified internal candidates to apply once the advertisement is made public.
“The Board will advertise the position of Chief Executive Officer shortly, and you are all encouraged to apply if you meet the required qualifications,” the email reads in part.
The communication further notes that the detailed job description and application forms will be made available on the Uganda Airlines website once the recruitment process officially opens.
Bamuturaki has served as Chief Executive Officer since July 2022, overseeing operations at the national carrier during a period marked by financial strain and heightened public scrutiny.
During her tenure, Uganda Airlines has faced multiple investigations. In 2024, the airline was probed by Parliament’s Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) following sustained operational losses reported by the company.
More recently, in January 2026, the airline’s management was subjected to another investigation jointly conducted by the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit. The probe focused on allegations of mismanagement, corruption, and abuse of office. No formal conclusions have yet been publicly communicated.
Uganda Airlines, which resumed commercial operations in 2019, remains a strategic state enterprise under the Ministry of Works and Transport, with government officials repeatedly affirming its importance to national connectivity, tourism, and trade.
The move to advertise the CEO position is expected to usher in a new phase of leadership as the airline seeks to stabilise its finances, improve efficiency, and restore public confidence.
