Kampala– Joy and Jubilations have covered Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court after Court granted bail to Dr. Sarah Bireete, the Executive Director for Center for Constitutional Governance (CCG) who has spent over three weeks on remand.

Sarah Bireete in Court

Dr. Bireete was at the beginning of this year remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of obtaining and disclosing National Voter’s Information without consent from the Electoral Commission.

Grade one Magistrate, Her worship Nankya Jatiko, was satisfied that, the applicant fulfilled all the bail requirements including presenting Substantial sureties.

Court ordered Bireete to deposit 1.5 million shillings cash, well as each of her sureties signed a bond of 10 million shillings not cash.

The case has been adjourned to 27 February 2026, for mention.

Prosecution contends that between January and December 2025 at various places within Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso Districts, Sarah Bireete unlawfully obtained or disclosed National Voter’s Information data, which is controlled and processed by the Electoral Commission; thus offending Sec 35 and 2 of the Data Protection and Privacy Act.
