Kampala– High Court in Kampala towards the end of this week, handed heavy prison sentences to security officers convicted of murdering Rukungiri businessman Goddie Anobushoborozi.

Police officer, Detective Corporal Lawrence Muheki, who was described as the masterminder of the plot, was sentenced to 37 years, while UPDF Captain Moses Akiba received 27 years for planning and participating in the deadly ambush.
The five accomplices were sentenced as follows; Frank Mugisha to 18 years, Rashid Kashaija to 30 years, Hillary Ahumuza to 35 years (identified as the shooter), Abed Mwesiga was handed 27 years and Rodney Rwakimari sentenced to 27 years
The trial judge, Justice Alex Mackay Ajiji revealed that the sentences were given according to each convict’s role in the murder.
The prosecution evidence proved in court that the group lured victim from his home after promising him some money, but instead shot him while on the Rukungiri–Buhunga Road.
Although the convicts has asked for a lenient sentence during mitigation, the Prosecution cited out abuse of authority by security officers as a key aggravating factor.
Upon delivering the sentence, the trial judge reminded them, that they have 14 days within which to appeal both conviction and sentence Incase they are not satisfied.
